Commercial systems need more than a household-size recommendation.
A restaurant may use water heavily during a short dinner rush. Another business may need steady flow throughout the day. Some equipment requires a specific water quality, while other applications benefit from treating only the hot-water supply.
Kraken looks at how your business uses water before recommending equipment. That includes identifying which connections should receive softened water and which should remain untreated.
Our goal is a system that delivers the required flow, manages hardness effectively, and provides accessible service connections.
Kraken can evaluate water-softening needs for:
Restaurants and commercial kitchens
Commercial dishwashing and ware-washing equipment
Commercial hot-water systems
Tankless and conventional water heaters
Laundry equipment
Multi-unit properties and shared water systems
Specialty water-using equipment with defined treatment requirements
Equipment specifications matter. Coffee machines, ice machines, steam equipment, and other specialty appliances may require filtration or treatment beyond softening. We review the application rather than assume one system solves every water concern.
A conventional water softener uses ion exchange to reduce dissolved calcium and magnesium—the minerals responsible for water hardness.
Reducing hardness can help limit new mineral scale in water-heating equipment and other appropriate applications. It can also improve soap and detergent performance and reduce hardness-related cleaning demands.
A softener does not automatically remove chlorine, reduce total dissolved solids, disinfect water, or make every water supply suitable for specialized equipment.
If your operation needs additional treatment, we can evaluate options such as carbon filtration, sediment filtration, or application-specific drinking-water treatment.
An undersized system may restrict flow or run out of usable capacity before the next regeneration. A larger tank alone does not guarantee better performance.
Before recommending a commercial softener, Kraken evaluates factors such as:
Incoming water hardness
Typical daily water consumption
Peak flow during busy periods
Equipment operating simultaneously
Available water pressure and pipe size
Required treated-water quality
Operating hours and opportunities for regeneration
Available space, drainage, power, and service access
Expected changes in business demand
Where usage information is incomplete, we explain what needs to be measured or confirmed before finalizing the design.
A single-tank system may be appropriate when demand is manageable and regeneration can occur during a suitable downtime window.
The design needs to account for what happens during regeneration, including whether the application can tolerate an interruption in softened-water delivery.
A twin-alternating system uses two resin tanks. One tank supplies treated water while the other is available for regeneration or standby.
This arrangement can support softened-water availability through regeneration when correctly sized and configured. It may be useful for businesses with extended operating hours, variable demand, or equipment that benefits from a consistent softened-water supply.
Twin-alternating equipment still requires proper capacity, flow, pressure, and maintenance planning. It is not a substitute for sizing the system correctly.
Kraken explains the tradeoffs before recommending either arrangement.
A dependable system needs a clean, serviceable installation.
Depending on the project, installation may include:
Equipment selection and layout planning
Plumbing connections sized for the application
Accessible shutoffs and a service bypass
Supported piping and secure equipment placement
Appropriate drain routing and air-gap arrangements
Brine-tank placement with access for salt loading
Control-valve programming
Startup and regeneration checks
Leak checks and outlet-hardness testing
An operating and maintenance walkthrough
We review access and scheduling with your business before installation. Any required shutdowns, plumbing modifications, or additional work should be identified in the proposal.
Already have a commercial water softener? Kraken can evaluate many existing systems, including equipment installed by another company.
Common concerns include:
Hardness returning to the treated water
Failure to regenerate
Excessive or unexpectedly low salt use
Brine-tank overflow or failure to draw brine
Salt bridges and neglected brine tanks
Control-valve leaks
Worn seals, spacers, pistons, or other service components
Pressure loss through the system
Incorrect settings
Equipment that no longer matches business demand
Service options depend on the equipment, parts availability, and system condition.
Sometimes the right answer is a repair or programming correction. Other systems need replacement or a revised design. We explain the findings before recommending the next step.
Maintenance should match the equipment and how heavily it is used.
A service visit may include checking:
Incoming and treated-water hardness
Salt levels and brine-tank condition
Regeneration settings and operation
Brine draw and refill performance
Accessible valves, fittings, and visible leaks
Changes in flow, pressure, or water consumption
Signs that resin or components need further evaluation
Salt delivery and maintenance responsibilities should be clearly defined so the system does not go unnoticed until equipment starts showing scale again.

A commercial softener should solve a defined water problem and fit the way your business operates.
Kraken Water Systems serves commercial customers in San Diego, La Mesa, El Cajon, Santee, Chula Vista, La Jolla, Poway, Rancho Santa Fe, Coronado, and surrounding communities.
When requesting an evaluation, include your location, business type, equipment involved, and any available water test or usage information.
It depends on water hardness, equipment requirements, and the problems you are experiencing. Scale in hot-water equipment and hardness-related cleaning issues are reasons to evaluate softening. Some appliances need a different treatment approach.
That depends on the application and plumbing layout. Treating selected equipment or the hot-water supply may make sense for some businesses. Others may benefit from a broader system. We evaluate the connections before recommending a scope.
A softener reduces hardness in the incoming water. It does not replace cleaning or descaling of equipment that already contains deposits. Existing equipment may need separate maintenance.
It can reduce spotting caused by hardness minerals, but results also depend on dissolved solids, detergent, rinse aid, operating conditions, and equipment performance. Softening does not address every cause of spotting.
Not necessarily. Twin-alternating equipment can be useful when softened water is needed during regeneration or operating hours leave little downtime. A properly sized single-tank system may suit other operations.
We can evaluate many existing commercial softeners. Send photos of the system, control valve, model information, and plumbing connections so we can review the likely service requirements.
Pricing depends on required flow and capacity, system configuration, plumbing modifications, drainage, access, and installation scope. Kraken provides a project-specific proposal rather than a price based only on tank size.
Tell us what your business uses water for, what problems you are noticing, and what equipment you need to protect.
Kraken will help you understand the treatment options and plan a system around your operation.
